Letters from my childhood (in progress)

Dear Grammy and Papa, (Undated but I’m sure it’s 1978)

Thank you for all the nice letters and for the money too. I'm sending a shield of stars from school. The checks count as stars because my teacher ran out of stars. It is a beautiful day out right now. I had some seals of birds and I was going to put them on but I don’t know where they are. I made little league. I’m on the White Sox we play against my friends team Jimmy Zarkadas. Is your snow still there? I have a feeling we’re going to have a long, happy, sunny summer. I miss you very much. We had a banquet in hockey instead of gold trophies we got silver trophies. Oh I forgot to tell you the stars on the on the shield are for if get an answer right. We started them in February. At the banquet we had lots of food. I had around 4 bowls of spaghetti chicken, corn, salad, potato, punch and coke and ice cream for dessert. I signed up for Pitch, Hit and Run. At practice yesterday and I kept on clobbering the ball I was hitting them so far I stayed to bat the whole time. Mr and Mrs Dore gave me one of Ricky’s old small bikes and I just looked out the window and Dawn can ride her bike real good. We had just put all the winter clothes away. I miss you both very much we’ll be up soon by now much love

Love Jimmy

Dear Grammy, (undated but no mention of Papa so he must have just passed which was, I think 1980)

I am sorry I haven't been writing to you. It snowed out here a little bit then it turned to rain. I had a hockey practice this morning. Babe Ruth baseball is going to start in a few weeks. Remember that girl who was over during the two weeks vacation, Ann. I got in a fight with her now we’re friends though. In school I got a 95 on a math test, my worst subject. On Friday I had a science test and Spanish test. I will know my marks Monday. The only subject I am worry about is math. Progress reports will be given out Thursday. It is project week in History I have to make another project. I can’t wait till you come down again this time I can go out. In hockey we have a championship game against Philadelphia Sunday. I sent away for a school yearbook. I won’t get it until June. I have to do my homework now. Say hi to Dorothy, Paul and everyone.

Bye Love Jimmy

I’m starting to play football games. My team one 40-7. I got three touchdowns. We just play in the field across our house

Dear Grammy and Papa    (November 6 1977)

We had a soccer game. We lost 3-0. I was the only one who got a shot on net. My friend Jimmy came with us to a haunted house at Jamaica Plain October 30, 1977. We had so much fun. There was a place in the house that had a north pole with strange noises. We had a great time.

On Halloween after we went trick or treating we went to a party. We ( Keith, Zoy, Jimmy and I) had to go in boxeswith a mask so you can’t see. At the end you had to put your hand in something. I put mine in spaghetti and it was real gooey and yuckey. November 5 there was a fair at our church. I bought a big game for only .25 cents and it would have cost $5.00 in stores.

Happy birthday Grammy

We’ll see you Thursday night

Love Jimmy
