Google Earth helped me find this picture and start me on a Hawaiian thread. |
Farting around on Google Earth for a while and typed in my old address in Hawaii from 1998/99. The road came up but I couldn't remember the address. So I just probed around on Makana Drive until I came to the cul de sac and then when I saw this, I knew. Just for kicks and giggles I was able to get a close-up of the mail post (I remembered it had our number on the pole) and bam! 59-576, it all came back to me. This was our driveway that leads up to the house. We lived in a finished apartment over a garage. A famous surfer had lived there before us (I forget his name now). The owners were cool. The man, a surgeon and the wife, forget her vocation and their two dogs. We were at the top of the mountain/ hill whatever it was and below us was Waimea Bay. At night from our little gecko lounging porch you could hear the crash of Waimea Bay waves as they rolled in one after another.

Stunning driveway to come home to after work. |

I had just finished power spraying the driveway here. It helped pay the rent. |

PJ was the young buck, the barker, the jumper, the face licker; Constance was the slow quiet seasoned vet. |
The driveway. In the old picture, the middle picture from video still, you can see the young trees just starting to grow outside the entrance to the left and right. The current photo shows two full grown palm trees. Picture of me with PJ, with Constance in background. It's closer to the house as you can start to see details and props.

Kapu ai Place, Haleiwa, Hawaii 2014 |
I found this picture on Google Earth next. Rich already was living here when I arrived in February 1992. It looks a lot different now although the same brick structure is in tact. The red fence is new. The front stairs and deck/ patio or whatever is new too, well, by new I mean were not there back then. The only access to the top apartment then was you had to walk around back to some stairs there. We lived down stairs as that white door was our in and out although it wasn't a white door either. The immediate window to the left of the door was the kitchen and the far left window was the spare room that was supposed to be mine but I slept on couch instead. If you take a left out of our driveway, you will come to the end of the street, cut through a few yards and you are on Sunset Beach. Both my addresses were in Haleiwa and were fairly close to each other except one was at the bottom of the mountain/hill near the ocean and the other was at the top surrounded by wild Hawaiian forest.

The pad, 1992. |

I can still picture the inside like it was yesterday. |
That's Rich's car and bike (inherited from his brother Mark).
